The World-Class Keeley Culture

By: Rusty Keeley

2020 has been a life-changing year to say the least, but I am a huge believer that you learn the most through challenging times. The single most important lesson that has been reaffirmed for me is that our people are our most important asset. We would not be in the position we are in today without their commitment to our culture and to each other. I have never been more proud of our Keeley'ns and how they have showcased all six of our cultural pillars. I invite you to take the time to see how we are bringing our culture to life during these unprecedented times.

KeeleyWay: Stratetgic Planning and Growth

The KeeleyWay is our strategic growth model for “Achieving Results on Purpose”. This includes 5-year visions, 3-year business plans, future organizational charts, annual budgets, and scorecards for each company and group. Our i404 action planning process keeps us accountable; every Keeley’n creates meaningful action plans to drive our scorecard goals and achieve our vision. The KeeleyWay takes buy-in from all levels of the organization and has resulted in unprecedented success for our Keeley'ns As we have battled the trials and tribulations COVID-19 has created, Keeley Companies has continued hiring new team members to carry out our essential services across the nation. Apart from our growth, our amazing culture, solidified strategic processes, and dedication to our Keeley’ns has been a cornerstone for Keeley Companies as we were proud to receive the Top Workplaces award for 2020 - our ninth consecutive year!

KeeleySafe: AGC Excellence Award + COVID-19

As stated in our mission statement, "The safety, well-being, and career growth of our Keeley'ns are the benchmarks of our success." Safety is at the center of everything we do at Keeley Companies, and our world-class safety culture is now officially award-winning! In March 2020, L. Keeley was awarded the second place AGC Construction Safety Excellence Award. This national award aims to recognize construction companies who excel at safety performance. We are so proud of our Safety team and all Keeley'ns for making Safety our #1 priority and fostering a culture built on ZERO. The COVID-19 pandemic has brought its challenges, but our Safety Team rose to those challenges in order to ensure the health and safety of all team members on our jobsites across the country. Daily health screenings, social distancing, increased cleaning procedures, and much more have been put into place to help curb the spread of COVID-19 and keep our Keeley'ns healthy. #KeeleyCares: The Urban League

The COVID-19 crisis has greatly affected the underserved in our community. The Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis has stepped up to serve and provide assistance for thousands of families in need. #KeeleyCares is blessed to work alongside and support the important work of the Urban League. Food, toiletries, and safety items are handed out via Drive-Thru Food Distributions to families in need. 3,000+ families are being served each Saturday throughout the summer. #KeeleyCares' funds, equipment, and volunteers are playing an essential role in these endeavors. It is an amazing community effort and we are grateful to be involved! This summer, over 250 Keeley'ns were lucky to have served over 60,000 families with one Keeley'n being asked to join the Urban League Board. With over $2 million in donations and gifts contributed to this effort, we have witnessed firsthand that "Together We Make a Difference." KeeleyOne: Empowering Every Voice

We have been deeply saddened and pained by the latest tragic events in our country. As a company, there is much work to be done and we have been listening, learning, and assessing how to best approach this subject with the awareness, purpose, and intentionality it deserves. Throughout the last few months, I took time to reflect. After a lot of thinking and a passion for diversity and inclusion, we decided to immediately launch our sixth cultural pillar, KeeleyOne. KeeleyOne was in the works, but I am ready to work hard and bring meaningful change to the Keeley Companies. We officially launched KeeleyOne on August 13 during the Semi-Annual CEO Address. I am so excited to get started and we will not stop in our pursuit of true equity and equality within the Keeley Companies. Click here to read more about the launch of KeeleyOne!

KeeleyLife: Annual Step Up Challenge

Our Annual Step Up Challenge is here! On July 1, Keeley'ns began the six-week challenge, competing against each other every week to see who could log the most steps. There are head-to-head challenges, physical and mental health tips, and fun, healthy recipes sent out each week during the challenge! Now more than ever, KeeleyLife is dedicated to the mental and physical health of our people. This challenge is a fun way to get active while participating in some friendly competition. This year, over 260 Keeley'ns participated in the challenge with the winning team averaging over 770,000 steps at the end of the challenge!

KeeleyU: CEO Series

KeeleyU is such an integral part of our culture, and we are so honored to be able to host some inspiring individuals for our annual CEO Series. On February 27, Keeley'ns heard from Ameren CEO, Warner Baxter, about Ameren's growth, his career journey, and what he is most excited about for the future of Ameren. We are so thankful for our 40+ year partnership and we can't thank Warner enough for taking the time to speak to our people! On March 11, KeeleyU had the pleasure of hosting a panel of talented women leaders. Facilitated by Gina Hoagland, the panel consisted of Carolyn Kindle-Betz, President of the Enterprise Holdings Foundation and member of the #MLS4TheLou ownership group, Alaina Macia, CEO of MTM, and Tara Mooar, Vice President of Global Engineering for Verizon. These three women educated our Keeley'ns on what it means to be a leader, their personal career journeys, and provided inspirational advice on how to take your career to the next level. This was an exceptional session, and we are so grateful to have been given the chance to learn from these women. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, we have made sure to continue to bring KeeleyU to our Keeley’ns no matter where they are across the country. On April 21, Jim Kavanaugh, CEO of World Wide Technology, joined us live from his home via Geniecast. World Wide Technology has been a longtime partner of the Keeley Companies and our partnership has been able to flourish through our cultural alignment. This virtual KeeleyU may have been a little different than the other CEO Series sessions, but it was informative, engaging, and a great way to stay positive during these difficult times. Thank you to all of the CEOs and leaders who have taken the time to educate and inspire our Keeley’ns! We are thankful for the incredible partnerships and look forward to more CEO Series sessions in the future.
